FINDING A REP

To a busy mom lassoed to schedules, the idea of a sales representative who will pound the pavement for you may sound like a dream. Sales reps cover various territories, such as all of southeast Michigan, or a specific urban center like New York City, so they know the retailers in their area and have nurtured relationships with them over the years. In return for representation, you are expected to pay a commission, typically 15 percent, for any sale that occurs in their territory. That means that if you get an order via e-mail from a store in your rep’s territory, you will owe your rep a commission, whether or not she was responsible for making the sale.
